📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This research examines the relationship between customer relationship management (CRM) practices and business growth in insurance firms operating in Bayelsa State, located in Nigeria's South South geopolitical zone. The insurance industry in Bayelsa operates within a complex environment shaped by oil sector volatility, rising risk awareness, and a growing middle-income population, making CRM an essential strategy for market expansion. This study adopts a survey research design with data collected from 90 insurance professionals and customers through structured questionnaires. Analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and regression. The study evaluates CRM dimensions including customer data management, personalised communication, after-sales service quality, complaint handling efficiency, and loyalty programme effectiveness. Results indicate that personalised communication and complaint handling efficiency are the most significant CRM drivers of business growth, measured by premium income growth and policyholder retention rates. Customer data management practices were found to be underdeveloped in most firms, limiting the ability to segment customers and design targeted product offerings. The study recommends that insurance firms in Bayelsa State invest in CRM software platforms, train customer service officers in data-driven communication, and formalise complaint resolution procedures. Keywords: customer relationship management, business growth, insurance industry, Bayelsa State, policyholder retention.
