Analysis of Tourist Satisfaction and Post-Visit Behavioural Intentions at Obudu Mountain Resort, Cross River State, South South Nigeria

📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW

This study analyses tourist satisfaction levels and their effect on post-visit behavioural intentions at Obudu Mountain Resort, a premier eco-resort in Cross River State, South South Nigeria. The resort's distinctive highland ecology and recreational facilities make it one of Nigeria's most distinctive domestic tourism offerings. A quantitative research design is adopted with questionnaires administered to 280 resort visitors during a six-month data collection period. A tourist satisfaction model adapted from the expectation-disconfirmation framework is applied, incorporating dimensions of accommodation quality, natural environment experience, activity diversity, staff service quality, and value for money. Path analysis is used to test the relationships between satisfaction dimensions and two post-visit behavioural intention constructs of revisit intention and recommendation intention. Findings reveal that natural environment experience and activity diversity are the strongest satisfaction predictors, together accounting for 54 percent of overall satisfaction variance. Accommodation quality, while rated moderately, has a significant conditional effect on revisit intention among guests who rate it below expectations. Overall satisfaction explains 67 percent of variance in recommendation intention, confirming strong word-of-mouth potential as a marketing resource. The study identifies actionable satisfaction gaps in food and beverage variety and digital connectivity provision that, if addressed, could substantially increase repeat visitation. Destination management recommendations for the resort management company and Cross River State Tourism Bureau are presented. Keywords: tourist satisfaction, post-visit behaviour, Obudu Mountain Resort, expectation-disconfirmation, Cross River State
