Role of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria in Campus Da’wah Activities at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife

This study investigates the role of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) in conducting Da'wah activities on the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, in South West Nigeria. Da'wah, the Islamic practice of invitation and propagation of the faith, is a central mandate of student Islamic organisations, yet its structured implementation on Nigerian university campuses has received limited empirical attention. The study adopts a descriptive survey design with data collected from 200 MSSN members and 10 executive officers using structured questionnaires and interview schedules. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. Findings indicate that MSSN conducts a range of Da'wah activities including weekly lectures, Islamic exhibitions, and distribution of religious literature. However, funding constraints, limited cooperation from non-Muslim students, and scheduling conflicts with academic programmes were identified as major barriers to impact. The study recommends that university administrations provide dedicated spaces and logistical support for student Da'wah activities and that MSSN chapters develop more strategic outreach approaches that are sensitive to the campus's diverse religious composition. These findings are relevant to campus religious organisations, university student affairs offices, and Islamic educational development bodies across Nigeria.
