The Impact of Choir Ministry on Congregational Worship Experience in RCCG Parishes in Abuja

This study investigates the impact of organised choir ministry on the quality of congregational worship experience in selected parishes of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Worship music is widely regarded as a central vehicle for spiritual engagement in Pentecostal and charismatic churches, yet the specific contribution of choir organisations to this experience is underexplored in the Nigerian theological literature. Using a descriptive survey design, data are gathered from 280 church members and 20 choir directors across ten RCCG parishes in Abuja Municipal Area Council and Bwari Area Council. Structured questionnaires and observational protocols are employed to assess worship engagement, emotional response, and perceived spiritual depth during choir-led worship sessions. Findings indicate that choir-led worship correlates positively with deeper congregational participation, longer periods of sustained devotion, and higher reported spiritual satisfaction compared to worship sessions led solely by praise teams. The quality of choir rehearsal practices and the theological content of selected songs are identified as the strongest determinants of worship impact. The study recommends that RCCG parishes invest in the theological formation of choir directors, adopt Scripture-saturated song selections, and maintain consistent rehearsal schedules.
