Utilisation of Projectors in Delivering Lessons in Private Secondary Schools in Kaduna State, North West Nigeria

This study investigates the utilisation of projectors as instructional tools in private secondary schools in Kaduna State, North West Nigeria. As private schools increasingly invest in technology to attract enrolments, projectors have become common fixtures in classrooms. However, the pedagogical quality of their use remains an open question. The study adopts a descriptive survey design, sampling 160 teachers from fifteen private secondary schools in Kaduna metropolis. A validated questionnaire assessed frequency of projector use, subjects for which projectors are most deployed, challenges encountered, and teacher training levels. Data were analysed using frequency counts, percentages, and mean scores. Findings show that projectors are used most frequently in English language and mathematics lessons and least in physical education and agricultural science. Over 60 percent of teachers report using projectors only to display text-heavy slides, suggesting limited exploitation of the medium's visual and multimedia potential. Challenges include irregular electricity supply, lack of spare projector bulbs, and absence of formal training on multimedia lesson design. The study recommends that private school proprietors organise multimedia pedagogy workshops for teachers and invest in alternative power solutions to ensure uninterrupted projector use.
