📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study examines the extent to which teachers in Federal Science and Technical Colleges in Edo State, South South Nigeria use Google Classroom to deliver remote lessons. Learning management platforms such as Google Classroom have gained prominence as institutions explore hybrid delivery models following pandemic-era disruptions. A descriptive survey design was adopted, sampling 90 teachers from Federal Science and Technical College Benin City and Federal Science College, Usi-Ekiti (serving as a regional comparison benchmark). A validated questionnaire assessed frequency of platform use, types of instructional activities conducted, technical proficiency, and constraints. Data were analysed using frequency tables and mean scores. Results reveal that fewer than 40 percent of sampled teachers had active Google Classroom accounts, and only 20 percent used the platform for regular lesson delivery. Primary barriers include limited teacher training, irregular internet access, and student resistance due to device ownership gaps. Teachers who received school-supported Google Workspace training reported significantly more confident and frequent use. The study recommends that the Federal Ministry of Education mandate Google Classroom orientation workshops for all teachers in its science and technical colleges and ensure campus-wide internet connectivity to support hybrid instructional models.
