The timely communication of examination results remains a critical challenge in Nigerian polytechnics, where students frequently experience prolonged uncertainty due to delayed result releases and limited access to institutional portals. This problem is particularly acute in institutions where internet penetration among students is inconsistent, making web-only solutions inadequate. This study developed an SMS-based result notification system designed to bridge the information gap between polytechnic administrations and students in Nigeria, with a contextual focus on institutions in Enugu State. The study adopted a prototyping methodology, with system design guided by structured analysis of existing result dissemination workflows. The platform was built using Python, a MySQL database backend, and integrated with the Twilio SMS API to automate result delivery directly to students' registered mobile numbers upon result publication. Testing conducted on simulated student datasets demonstrated that the system delivered result notifications within seconds of publication, achieving a 98% delivery success rate across tested mobile networks. The platform also incorporated a result query feature, allowing students to request results via SMS keyword commands. The study concluded that SMS-based notification systems represent a viable and inclusive solution for result communication in Nigerian polytechnics, particularly given the country's high mobile phone penetration relative to internet access. It is recommended that polytechnic managements adopt this approach as a complementary layer to existing web-based portals.
