📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study examined the effectiveness of the simulation method in teaching Marketing Principles to Business Education students in tertiary institutions in Cross River State, South South Nigeria. Marketing education benefits significantly from experiential learning approaches that allow students to practise real-world scenarios in a safe environment. The simulation method, which involves role-playing, business game scenarios, and market modeling, is considered one of the most effective tools for developing marketing competency. However, its adoption in Cross River State business education classrooms remains limited. A quasi-experimental research design was adopted. The population comprised 480 undergraduate Business Education students in three tertiary institutions across Calabar, Ogoja, and Ikom. A sample of 120 students was selected and assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received instruction through the simulation method, while the control group was taught using conventional lecture methods. A validated Marketing Achievement Test was administered as pretest and posttest instruments. Analysis of Covariance was used to test the hypotheses at a 0.05 significance level. The results indicate that students taught through simulation significantly outperformed those taught through conventional methods, particularly in applying marketing mix concepts. The study recommends the incorporation of simulation-based activities into the official Business Education curriculum in Cross River State and that instructors be trained on effective facilitation of business simulation exercises.
