Assessment of Entrepreneurial Intentions Among Business Education Final Year Students in Anambra State Tertiary Institutions

📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW

This study assessed the entrepreneurial intentions of final year Business Education students in tertiary institutions in Anambra State, South East Nigeria. The unemployment crisis among Nigerian graduates has placed entrepreneurship at the center of national economic discourse, and Business Education is uniquely positioned to cultivate entrepreneurial dispositions. Anambra State, known for its strong business culture, offers a rich context for examining whether formal business education translates into actionable entrepreneurial intentions. A descriptive survey design was adopted. The population comprised 390 final year Business Education students across four institutions in Anambra State. Using stratified random sampling, 195 students were selected. The Entrepreneurial Intention Questionnaire, adapted from established scales and validated by experts in Business Education, was the primary data collection instrument. Mean scores and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while independent samples t-test was used for hypothesis testing. The findings reveal that a majority of students possess moderate entrepreneurial intentions, with personal attitude and perceived behavioral control identified as the strongest predictors. Students from families with business backgrounds reported significantly higher entrepreneurial intentions. The study recommends that Business Education departments in Anambra should integrate mentorship by successful entrepreneurs, incubation labs, and seed grant competitions into their programme structure to translate intention into action.
