📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study examined the influence of school funding on the quality of Business Education delivery in private secondary schools in Lagos State, South West Nigeria. Lagos State hosts the largest concentration of private secondary schools in Nigeria, with significant variation in fee structures, funding sources, and resource availability. This diversity creates a natural context for examining how financial investment shapes the quality of Business Education instruction, infrastructure, and student outcomes. A descriptive survey design was employed. The population comprised 420 Business Education teachers and school administrators in 60 private secondary schools across three educational districts in Lagos State, selected using multistage sampling. Questionnaires and document review guides were used as data collection instruments. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Findings indicate that schools with higher per-student funding levels had better Business Education laboratory facilities, more qualified teachers, and superior student examination results. However, significant disparities were observed between schools in high-income and low-income catchment areas, raising equity concerns. The study recommends that the Lagos State Ministry of Education should establish minimum funding standards for Business Education infrastructure in all registered private secondary schools and create monitoring mechanisms to ensure compliance and protect the educational rights of students across different socioeconomic strata. Keywords: school funding, business education quality, private secondary schools, Lagos State, educational equity
