Availability and Utilization of Library Resources for Business Education Research in Edo State University Library

This study assessed the availability and utilization of library resources for Business Education research at the Edo State University Library, Uzairue, South South Nigeria. Libraries are foundational to academic research, providing access to journals, textbooks, digital databases, and archival materials that support evidence-based learning. For Business Education students, access to current economic, management, and educational literature is essential for academic development. However, many university libraries in Nigeria face chronic underfunding and outdated collections. A descriptive survey design was employed. The population comprised 280 undergraduate Business Education students at Edo State University. A sample of 140 students was selected using simple random sampling. A structured questionnaire and a library resource observation checklist were used for data collection. Descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation were used for data analysis. Findings reveal that while the library possesses a reasonable collection of Business Education texts, most resources are outdated, with limited access to online academic databases. Students reported irregular library visits due to poor internet connectivity and insufficient study space. The study recommends that the university library management should subscribe to accessible academic databases such as JSTOR, ERIC, and African Journals Online, and that the Business Education department should incorporate library research skills training into its orientation programme for first-year students.
