📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study investigated the relationship between staff welfare management practices and job performance of academic staff in Business Education departments in state universities in Osun State, South West Nigeria. Staff welfare encompasses the totality of measures taken by an institution to ensure the physical, psychological, and professional wellbeing of its employees. In Nigerian state universities, where delayed salaries, poor working conditions, and inadequate social support systems have been recurring issues, staff welfare management has direct implications for academic productivity and institutional quality. A descriptive survey design was employed. The population comprised 160 academic staff in Business Education departments across two state universities in Osun State. The entire accessible population was used as the sample. A validated Staff Welfare Management Scale and a Job Performance Rating Instrument were used for data collection. Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis were employed for data analysis. Findings reveal a significant positive relationship between welfare management quality and academic staff job performance. Salary adequacy, health support access, and professional development support were the strongest welfare predictors of performance. The study recommends that Osun State University management should prioritize the timely payment of salaries, provision of health insurance coverage, and creation of a structured staff welfare committee in Business Education departments to continuously monitor and address welfare concerns.
