Assessment of the Adequacy of Library Resources for Curriculum Support in Federal Government Colleges in Edo State

School library resources are critical for curriculum enrichment and independent learning, and their adequacy in Federal Government Colleges in Edo State determines the depth of curriculum support available to students in the South South zone. This study assessed the adequacy of library resources for curriculum support in FGCs in Benin City, Auchi, and Warri, Edo State, South South Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was employed, combining a structured questionnaire administered to 60 library staff and teachers with a physical library audit checklist applied at each institution. Dimensions assessed included collection size, curriculum alignment of holdings, digital resource access, library usage frequency, and student-librarian ratio. Results showed that FGC Benin City maintained the strongest collection (12,450 volumes) while FGC Warri had the most constrained (6,720 volumes). Curriculum text alignment was rated as adequate in 48.3 percent of core subject holdings but below adequate in all three libraries for recent reference materials (post-2018 publications). Student-to-librarian ratios ranged from 280:1 to 440:1, exceeding recommended standards. Only one of three schools had operational internet-linked library cataloguing. Students reported using the library at least weekly in only 22.1 percent of cases. The study concludes that library resources in Edo State FGCs are insufficient for effective curriculum support and recommends annual collection updating budgets, digital library database subscriptions, and librarian capacity development as priority interventions.
