Assessment of ICT Infrastructure for Curriculum Delivery in Private Primary Schools in Abuja, FCT

Private primary schools in the Federal Capital Territory are at the forefront of ICT-enhanced curriculum delivery in Nigeria, and benchmarking their infrastructure provision and utilisation provides a useful reference point for ICT policy development. This study assessed the ICT infrastructure status and curriculum delivery use in private primary schools in Abuja Municipal Area Council and Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory. A descriptive survey design was employed, with questionnaires administered to 100 teachers from 25 private primary schools, supplemented by infrastructure audit visits. Dimensions assessed included device availability, internet connectivity quality, teacher digital literacy, curriculum application of ICT, and equity of student access. Results showed that student-to-device ratios below 1:5 were maintained in 72.0 percent of schools. All surveyed schools had internet connectivity, though rated as stable in only 54.0 percent. ICT was integrated into at least one lesson daily in 58.0 percent of schools. Teacher digital literacy was self-rated as advanced by 46.0 percent. Equity concerns arose as 31.0 percent of schools limited ICT lab access to higher academic streams. The study concludes that private primary school ICT infrastructure in Abuja is relatively well developed compared to national standards but shows teacher digital literacy and access equity gaps. Recommendations include digital literacy certification for teachers, equity-based ICT lab scheduling, and cross-sector public-private infrastructure learning partnerships.
