Utilisation of Library Resources by Nursing Students in Federal Medical Centre Yola

This study assessed the utilisation of library resources by nursing students at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, in Adamawa State, North East Nigeria. Health sciences students are expected to engage regularly with current clinical literature, yet patterns of library use in health training institutions remain understudied in north-eastern Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was used, and data were collected from 180 nursing students using a structured questionnaire. Findings showed that textbooks and printed clinical manuals were the most heavily used resources, while electronic health databases such as PubMed and CINAHL were rarely consulted. Key barriers included unfamiliarity with database search procedures, limited internet access within the library, and high subscription costs of clinical journals. The study recommended that the library invest in licensed access to health science databases, conduct targeted training for nursing students on database search strategies, and create a dedicated health information corner within the library.
