Pattern of Skin Diseases Presenting at Dermatology Clinic, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, South West Nigeria

Skin diseases are among the most common reasons for outpatient medical consultation in Nigeria, and their pattern in South West tertiary settings reflects a combination of infectious, inflammatory, and nutritional conditions shaped by local environmental and sociocultural factors. This study examines the pattern and frequency of skin diseases presenting at the dermatology outpatient clinic of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. A retrospective cross-sectional design is applied to clinic registers and case notes over a three-year period from 2020 to 2022. Variables include patient age, sex, diagnosis category, duration of symptoms, previous treatment sought, and treatment outcome. Descriptive statistics are computed in SPSS. Published dermatology clinic series from South West Nigeria commonly identify dermatophytosis, eczema, acne vulgaris, psoriasis, and vitiligo as the leading conditions in tertiary settings, with infectious dermatoses predominating in younger patients. The ICD-11 dermatology diagnostic classification guides case categorisation. Findings will provide a current institutional epidemiological record to guide training, drug formulary planning, and the prioritisation of dermatology health promotion topics for patient education within the hospital.
