Professional Assessment of Educational Technology Platform Selection and Implementation in Private Universities in Lagos State

Private universities in Lagos State are increasingly adopting educational technology platforms to enhance learning outcomes and institutional competitiveness, but the selection criteria, implementation quality, and return on investment of these platforms require professional assessment. This study professionally assesses educational technology platform selection processes and implementation outcomes at five private universities in Lagos State: Covenant University, Babcock University, Pan-Atlantic University, Caleb University, and Landmark University. A multi-case professional evaluation was applied, using platform selection framework document analysis, LMS usage analytics review, and structured surveys of 200 academic staff and 300 students, alongside 25 key informant interviews with e-learning managers and university ICT directors. Evaluation dimensions include selection process alignment with pedagogical needs, technical capability of deployed platforms, user adoption rates, faculty training adequacy, and student learning outcome improvements attributable to platform use. Descriptive statistics and cross-institution comparative analysis were applied. Available Nigerian private university EdTech literature identifies vendor lock-in concerns, insufficient faculty digital pedagogy training, and inadequate technical support as the most common platform implementation challenges. The Kirkpatrick Evaluation Model and the Horizon Report Higher Education Technology Adoption Framework provide the professional evaluation reference. Findings indicate significant variation in platform utilisation rates across institutions, with faculty engagement being the most decisive adoption factor. Recommendations address platform-agnostic digital pedagogy training, structured faculty EdTech mentoring, and student feedback integration in platform governance.
