📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study investigated the prospects and challenges of applying big data analytics in library management in Nigerian university libraries. Big data analytics, which involves processing large, complex datasets to derive actionable insights, is transforming library operations globally by enabling demand-led collection development, personalised user services, and evidence-based decision-making. A qualitative interpretive design was employed, and data were gathered through focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with library directors, systems librarians, and ICT managers in ten universities across five geopolitical zones. Findings revealed that Nigerian university libraries were in early stages of awareness regarding big data applications. A few institutions had begun collecting transaction data from their integrated library systems but lacked the analytical tools and trained personnel to process it meaningfully. The study identified data governance, privacy, technical infrastructure, and funding as the most pressing challenges. It recommended that universities develop big data readiness frameworks, invest in analytics training for library staff, and establish data governance policies before broader deployment. Keywords: big data analytics, library management, Nigerian university libraries, data governance, library innovation.
