📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
The Anambra Basin hosts significant petroleum potential in its Campanian to Maastrichtian sandstone reservoirs, yet the stratigraphic correlation of key reservoir intervals between wells remains poorly constrained due to the limited availability of high-quality seismic reflection data over the onshore portions of the basin. This professional study reprocesses and reinterprets a 320-kilometre network of vintage 2D seismic reflection profiles acquired in the 1980s across the central Anambra Basin in Anambra and Imo states, supplemented by modern digital logs from five exploration wells. The vintage data were subjected to a reprocessing sequence including noise attenuation, surface-consistent amplitude corrections, velocity analysis, and post-stack time migration using current algorithms to improve signal-to-noise ratio and spatial resolution. Integrated seismic-to-well ties were performed using synthetic seismograms generated from sonic and density logs to identify the seismic expression of key stratigraphic markers. Major unconformities separating the Campanian Mamu Formation from the Maastrichtian Ajali Sandstone are traced consistently across all lines. Two previously unrecognised stratigraphic traps are identified as drape closures over Campanian reef-like buildups, representing new exploration targets. A revised stratigraphic correlation panel across the five wells improves the understanding of lateral sand connectivity and reservoir heterogeneity.
