Assessment of Institutional Readiness for Online Learning in a Nigerian Army Educational Centre in Abuja, North Central Nigeria

This study assesses the institutional readiness of a Nigerian Army educational centre in Abuja to adopt and sustain online learning programmes. Military educational institutions face unique readiness challenges given security protocols, operational schedules, and command authority structures that may affect how technology-driven learning is managed. A descriptive survey design was employed with a sample of 60 instructors and 100 learner personnel from the educational centre. Validated readiness scales adapted from established institutional e-learning readiness frameworks assessed technology infrastructure, human capacity, learner readiness, financial resource allocation, and managerial support for online learning. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and a composite readiness index was computed. Findings indicate moderate technology infrastructure readiness but low learner readiness due to limited prior exposure to online study environments. Management support for digital learning transformation exists in principle but lacks operationalisation. Financial allocation for e-learning infrastructure is below minimum recommended thresholds. The study recommends a phased online learning readiness improvement plan led by the centre's educational director, incorporating infrastructure upgrades, structured learner orientation, and dedicated e-learning budget lines.
