Obstetric ultrasound is the primary diagnostic imaging modality for foetal surveillance, and the quality of examination protocols directly determines the accuracy of gestational age assessment, foetal anomaly detection, and placental evaluation in antenatal care. At Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria, Kaduna State, obstetric ultrasound is performed by both radiographers and radiologists across multiple clinical settings, and the quality of these examinations requires systematic evaluation. This study assesses the quality of obstetric ultrasound examinations performed at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital against established imaging standards. A retrospective audit design is applied to 300 archived obstetric ultrasound reports and corresponding image documentation from 2022 to 2023. A structured quality assessment instrument measures adherence to the ISUOG Basic Training guidelines for obstetric ultrasound, specifically examining mandatory measurement documentation (biparietal diameter, head circumference, abdominal circumference, femur length), placental localisation recording, amniotic fluid assessment, and foetal presentation documentation. Descriptive statistics and frequency analysis are computed in SPSS. Available obstetric imaging quality literature from North West Nigeria identifies incomplete biometric measurement documentation and absent foetal position recording as the most prevalent quality deficiencies. The ISUOG Basic Training Guidelines and WHO obstetric ultrasound standards provide the evaluative framework. Findings are expected to reveal compliance gaps in foetal biometry documentation. Recommendations address standardised obstetric ultrasound reporting templates, structured competency assessment, and examination quality audit cycles at ABU Zaria.
