📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study investigated the challenges of managing electronic records at the Federal Civil Service Commission headquarters in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, North Central Nigeria. Electronic records management is increasingly central to government administrative efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the digital era. A descriptive survey design was employed, and data were obtained from records officers and administrative personnel through structured questionnaires and personal interviews. The study found that the Commission faced significant challenges including inadequate ICT infrastructure, low staff digital competency, absence of a formal electronic records management policy, and weak backup systems that exposed records to data loss. Staff responsible for records management had received minimal training in electronic records standards. The study recommended the development and implementation of a comprehensive electronic records management policy, investment in ICT infrastructure and backup systems, and the enrolment of records staff in certified training programmes in electronic records management. Keywords: electronic records management, Federal Civil Service Commission, Abuja, records policy, digital competency.
