Community acceptance is a critical but often underweighted factor in the planning and implementation of renewable energy projects, with wind energy developments globally facing varying degrees of local resistance linked to visual, noise, and land-use concerns. This study examines community perceptions of wind energy development in selected rural communities of Jigawa State, North West Nigeria, where wind speeds are adequate for small to medium wind turbine deployment. Qualitative and quantitative methods were combined, including structured surveys administered to 280 community members, key informant interviews with local government officials and traditional leaders, and focus group discussions with farmer, women, and youth groups. The survey instrument assessed awareness of wind energy, previous exposure to wind turbine installations, perceived benefits, concerns, and willingness to host turbines on agricultural land. Results indicate that 91 percent of respondents were unaware of wind turbine technology prior to the study, and following a brief audio-visual introduction, 78 percent expressed willingness to support wind energy development provided land compensation and local employment commitments were formalised. Concerns about turbine noise, interference with crop pollination, and land tenure insecurity were prominently raised. The study recommends mandatory pre-project community engagement protocols, benefit-sharing mechanisms, and land-lease standard agreements to be incorporated into Jigawa State's renewable energy investment guidelines.
