Development of a Mobile App for Tracking NECO/WAEC Result Checking in Enugu State Secondary Schools

The process of checking senior secondary school examination results in Nigeria remains cumbersome for students and school administrators alike, often requiring internet access, scratch card purchases, and navigation of multiple external portals. In Enugu State, where a significant proportion of secondary school students rely on shared devices or cybercafe access, this process introduces unnecessary delays and financial burdens. This study developed a mobile application designed to simplify and centralise NECO and WAEC result tracking for students and school administrators in Enugu State secondary schools. The application was built using Flutter and Dart, targeting Android devices given their dominant market share among Nigerian secondary school students. The system integrated with publicly available result-checking APIs and incorporated features for result storage, subject-by-subject grade display, and school-wide performance analytics accessible to school administrators. Usability testing conducted among senior secondary students in selected Enugu Urban schools indicated that the application reduced result-checking time by an average of 65% compared to the conventional web-based method. School administrators reported improved ability to track cohort performance and identify students requiring academic support. The study concluded that mobile-based result tracking applications offer a practical and accessible solution to examination result management in Nigerian secondary schools, particularly within contexts of limited broadband access. Future development should explore offline caching features to further accommodate low-connectivity environments.
