Course registration in Nigerian polytechnics continues to be conducted through manual and semi-automated processes that generate long queues, registration errors, adviser bottlenecks, and inadequate academic record accuracy. In Enugu State polytechnics, National Diploma students frequently encounter difficulties registering courses within stipulated deadlines due to system failures, paper form shortages, and limited administrative support capacity during peak registration periods. This study developed an online course registration system designed to automate and simplify the ND course registration process in Enugu State polytechnics, with IMT Enugu as the primary case institution. The system was implemented using a PHP and MySQL web stack with a student-facing registration portal and a departmental administrative backend for course setup, prerequisite management, and registration approval. Students could log in, view available courses for their level, select units within defined credit load limits, and submit registrations for adviser review, all within a single online session. Automated validation prevented over-registration and flagged prerequisite conflicts before submission. Load testing confirmed the system's ability to support up to 500 concurrent student sessions without performance degradation. Students involved in usability trials reported a substantially improved registration experience, particularly the elimination of physical queuing. The study concluded that online course registration represents a practical and high-impact digital upgrade for Enugu State polytechnics, and recommended integration with existing student academic record management systems for maximum institutional benefit.
