Effects of Classroom Environment on Learning Outcomes of Business Education Students in Public Secondary Schools in Bauchi State

This study examined the effects of the classroom environment on the learning outcomes of Business Education students in public secondary schools in Bauchi State, North East Nigeria. The physical and psychosocial dimensions of the classroom environment have been shown to significantly influence students concentration, motivation, and academic performance. In Bauchi State, many public schools operate in dilapidated facilities with overcrowded classrooms, inadequate lighting, and poor ventilation, conditions that may adversely affect Business Education instruction. A descriptive survey design was employed. The population comprised 540 SS2 and SS3 Business Education students in twelve public secondary schools across three local government areas in Bauchi State. Using proportionate stratified sampling, 270 students were selected. A validated questionnaire on classroom environment and a review of students academic records were used as data collection instruments. Mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation were employed for data analysis. Findings indicate a significant positive correlation between a conducive classroom environment and improved learning outcomes. Schools with better infrastructure, adequate seating, and organized classroom layouts recorded higher student performance in Business Education examinations. The study recommends that the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board should prioritize school facility renovation and provide classroom furniture that supports modern pedagogical arrangements to improve Business Education outcomes in the state.
