Evaluation of ICT Integration in Library Services at Plateau State University, Jos, North Central Nigeria

Library digitalisation is a core component of modern university academic infrastructure, and the degree of ICT integration in library services at Nigerian state universities significantly influences research productivity and student learning outcomes. This study evaluates the status of ICT integration in library services at Plateau State University, Jos, North Central Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was applied to 185 library users including students and academic staff, and 12 library staff, selected through purposive and systematic sampling. Questionnaire items assessed availability and functionality of the Online Public Access Catalogue, electronic journal access, digital borrowing systems, library management software, internet connectivity, and user satisfaction with digital library services. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation were computed in SPSS. Literature from North Central Nigerian university libraries identifies unstable electricity, limited ICT staff capacity, and insufficient digital content subscriptions as the major barriers to effective library digitalisation. The Information System Success Model by DeLone and McLean provides the evaluative framework. Findings indicate that the OPAC is functional but poorly maintained, with approximately 43 percent of catalogue records having incomplete metadata, and that access to licensed electronic journals is restricted to a small number of databases. Recommendations include dedicated library ICT budget allocation, staff professional development, and participation in institutional digital library consortium arrangements.
