Evaluation of Secretarial Training Programmes in Selected Polytechnics in South South Nigeria

This study evaluates the content, delivery quality, and professional relevance of secretarial training programmes in selected polytechnics in Nigeria's South South geopolitical zone. As the professional demands of the modern office environment evolve rapidly, the adequacy of polytechnic secretarial training in equipping graduates for current workplace realities has come under increasing scrutiny. Using a professional evaluation design, the study targets secretarial studies lecturers, heads of department, alumni now in professional practice, and employers of polytechnic secretarial graduates in Edo, Delta, and Rivers States. Data are collected through structured questionnaires and programme content analysis guides. The CIPP Evaluation Model (Context, Input, Process, Product) provides the evaluative framework, with reference to literature from 2020 to 2024 on vocational and secretarial education in Nigeria. Specific dimensions evaluated include curriculum currency, practical skills content, ICT integration, and alignment with National Board for Technical Education standards. Employer satisfaction with graduate competencies is also assessed. Recommendations target the NBTE curriculum review committee and polytechnic academic boards.
