📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
Hypertension prevalence among working professionals in Nigeria's oil-rich South South states has risen in tandem with sedentary work patterns, high-stress environments, and unhealthy dietary habits. This study evaluated the impact of workplace health education interventions on hypertension control among bank employees in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. A quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test design was adopted, with 180 hypertensive employees recruited from five commercial banks in Port Harcourt City and Obio-Akpor local government areas. The experimental group received a 12-week structured health education programme covering lifestyle modification, blood pressure self-monitoring, and medication adherence. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and blood pressure readings at baseline and post-intervention. Paired t-tests and independent samples tests were used for analysis. Results showed a statistically significant reduction in mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure among the experimental group (p less than 0.05), alongside improvements in knowledge of hypertension management and dietary behaviour. Control group participants showed no meaningful change. The study recommended that financial institutions in Rivers State incorporate hypertension management health education into their corporate health frameworks and partner with health educators to design evidence-based workplace wellness programmes.
