Small and medium enterprises in Nigeria's commercial centres often operate without structured sales recording systems, resulting in revenue leakages, inaccurate stock control, and limited capacity for financial reporting. This study reports the implementation of an affordable point-of-sale system tailored to the needs of SMEs operating in Aba, Abia State, one of the South East's busiest commercial hubs. An initial needs assessment survey of 80 SME owners across the Ariaria International Market and Aba Township revealed that 74 percent tracked daily sales manually in notebooks, with only 11 percent using any form of digital transaction recording. The system was developed using Electron.js for a cross-platform desktop interface and SQLite for local data storage, enabling offline functionality critical in environments with unstable internet connectivity. Core features include product cataloguing with barcode scanning, automated daily sales reports, stock level alerts, and receipt printing. A four-week pilot deployment across five SMEs demonstrated average daily transaction recording accuracy of 98.6 percent and enabled owners to generate end-of-month revenue summaries previously unavailable to them. The study concludes that accessible, low-cost technology can meaningfully improve the operational efficiency and financial visibility of micro-enterprises in Nigerian markets.
