📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study investigated the influence of teacher qualification on students achievement in Financial Accounting in secondary schools in Ekiti State, South West Nigeria. The quality of teaching is widely considered the single most important school-based factor affecting student learning outcomes. In Ekiti State, where education is culturally prized, questions remain about the extent to which teacher academic and professional qualifications shape performance in Business Education subjects, particularly Financial Accounting, which demands subject-specific competency. A causal-comparative research design was adopted. The population comprised 1,100 SS3 students and their respective Financial Accounting teachers in public secondary schools across three senatorial districts in Ekiti State. A sample of 330 students and 33 teachers was selected through stratified random sampling. Students Financial Accounting scores from the last two promotion examinations and a teacher qualification checklist were used as data instruments. Analysis of Variance and post hoc Scheffe test were used for data analysis. Findings reveal that students taught by teachers with professional degrees in Business Education and teaching qualifications recorded significantly higher scores than those taught by teachers with non-specialist backgrounds. The study recommends that Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission should enforce strict subject-teacher matching policies and sponsor existing non-specialist teachers for professional retraining in Business Education. Keywords: teacher qualification, financial accounting achievement, secondary schools, business education, Ekiti State
