Organisational Culture and Staff Productivity in Technical Colleges in Kogi State

This study examines the relationship between organisational culture and staff productivity in technical colleges in Kogi State, North Central Nigeria. Organisational culture encompasses the shared values, norms, and practices that shape behaviour within an institution, and its influence on employee motivation, collaboration, and output is well-documented in management literature. In the context of technical education, a strong institutional culture can significantly enhance instructional quality and administrative efficiency. A descriptive correlational survey design is employed, with 90 teaching and non-teaching staff from 10 technical colleges in Lokoja, Ankpa, and Idah local government areas. A validated organisational culture assessment tool and a staff productivity inventory are administered. Pearson correlation and regression analysis examine the culture-productivity relationship. Findings are expected to reveal a significant positive correlation between supportive organisational cultures and staff productivity, with hierarchical and bureaucratic cultures associated with lower engagement and output. The study also examines the moderating role of leadership style in the culture-productivity relationship. Recommendations include leadership development for technical college administrators focused on building collaborative institutional cultures, staff recognition and incentive systems, and periodic organisational culture assessments as part of quality assurance processes. This study adds to organisational management research in Nigerian technical education and provides practical guidance for culture-building in technical institutions seeking to improve overall institutional performance.
