Professional Analysis of Digital Transformation Strategy and Implementation at Dangote Cement Plc: IT Infrastructure and Business Process Perspectives

Digital transformation in Nigerian manufacturing conglomerates requires coherent strategy alignment between IT infrastructure investment and business process redesign, and evaluating this alignment at flagship organisations such as Dangote Cement provides practical lessons for the sector. This study professionally analyses the digital transformation strategy and its implementation at Dangote Cement Plc, examining IT infrastructure modernisation and business process digitalisation outcomes from 2019 to 2023. A mixed-methods professional evaluation was conducted using document analysis of available annual reports, sustainability disclosures, and digital transformation project publications combined with structured interviews of twelve senior IT and operations managers across Dangote Cement's Lagos headquarters and two regional production plants. A digital transformation maturity model adapted from Westerman, Bonnet, and McAfee provides the evaluation structure. Findings are assessed across four dimensions: customer experience digitalisation, operational digitalisation, workforce enablement, and IT infrastructure modernisation. Descriptive and qualitative analysis were applied. Available digital transformation literature from Nigerian manufacturing identifies fragmented legacy system replacement, digital skills gaps at plant level, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities during cloud migration as the dominant implementation risks. The Dynamic Capabilities Theory and the IT-Business Alignment Model provide the theoretical reference. Findings indicate that operational digitalisation through predictive maintenance and supply chain analytics is progressing effectively, while workforce digital enablement remains the most underdeveloped dimension.
