Study of Visitor Experience and Satisfaction at Oguta Lake Holiday Complex, Imo State, South East Nigeria

This study examines visitor experience and satisfaction levels at Oguta Lake Holiday Complex in Imo State, South East Nigeria. Oguta Lake, one of Nigeria's largest natural lakes, offers significant recreational and ecotourism potential, yet research-based assessments of visitor satisfaction at the complex remain limited. A descriptive survey design is used, with structured questionnaires administered to 150 domestic visitors during weekends and public holidays. Dimensions of visitor experience assessed include natural scenic quality, accommodation comfort, recreational facilities, food and beverage services, and overall value for money. Findings indicate that visitors rate the natural environment highly, with 84 percent expressing satisfaction with the lake's aesthetic appeal. However, accommodation quality, facility maintenance, and variety of recreational activities receive significantly lower ratings. Sixty-two percent of respondents describe sanitation facilities as below acceptable standards, and 55 percent note that food service offerings are limited. The study identifies funding constraints, low private sector investment, and inadequate state government attention as root causes of facility decline. Recommendations include targeted public investment in facility upgrading, structured public-private partnership arrangements for complex management, and the introduction of kayaking, boat tours, and bird-watching packages to diversify the visitor experience.
