The Role of Digital Technology in Transforming Insurance Services in Enugu State

📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW

This study explores the role of digital technology in transforming insurance service delivery among insurance companies operating in Enugu State, South East Nigeria. The emergence of insurtech, encompassing mobile applications, artificial intelligence, digital payment platforms, and online policy management systems, has begun reshaping how insurance products are distributed, underwritten, and administered in Nigeria's urban markets. Enugu State, as a growing commercial hub in the South East, presents an informative context for examining early-stage digital adoption within the insurance industry. This research employs a descriptive survey design with data collected from 200 insurance professionals, including agents, brokers, and company staff, operating in Enugu metropolis. Structured questionnaires assess the extent of digital tool adoption, organizational readiness for digital transformation, customer response to digital service interfaces, and challenges associated with technology integration. Secondary data from NAICOM's market conduct reports supplement primary findings. Descriptive statistics including means and standard deviations are applied alongside qualitative content analysis of interview responses. Preliminary findings are expected to indicate moderate digital adoption concentrated primarily in premium payment processing, with slower uptake in underwriting and claims management. The study recommends strategic investment in digital infrastructure and staff capacity development to accelerate insurtech adoption in southeastern Nigerian insurance markets.
