User Satisfaction with Library Services in Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto

This study assessed user satisfaction with library services at Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, in Sokoto State, North West Nigeria. User satisfaction is a key indicator of the effectiveness of library services and a driver of continued library patronage by academic communities. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and a questionnaire was administered to 320 students and academic staff selected through stratified random sampling. The study examined satisfaction across five service dimensions: physical environment, circulation, reference services, electronic resources, and staff responsiveness. Overall satisfaction was moderate, with the physical environment receiving the lowest ratings due to poor ventilation, insufficient seating, and overcrowding. Staff responsiveness received relatively positive ratings. Electronic resources scored lowest among academic staff, who noted that subscribed databases were insufficient for advanced research needs. The study recommended investment in library infrastructure upgrades, expansion of electronic database subscriptions, and the introduction of regular user satisfaction surveys to guide continuous service improvement.
