Developing Igbo Language Content for E-Learning Platforms: A Professional Practice Guide for Nigerian Educators

This study develops a professional practice guide for Nigerian educators engaged in creating Igbo language content for e-learning platforms, addressing the specific content design, technical, and pedagogical challenges encountered in digital Igbo language education production. The proliferation of e-learning platforms in Nigerian education since 2020 has created new opportunities for Igbo language instruction at scale, but content development capacity among Igbo language educators remains limited, and no profession-specific practice guidance exists. The study employs a design research methodology, beginning with a needs assessment survey administered to sixty-two Igbo language educators with prior or intended e-learning content development involvement, followed by iterative development and expert validation of a professional practice guide through two rounds of expert panel review involving twelve Igbo language education specialists. Guide components address: principles of Igbo digital content design, tonal audio production standards, copyright considerations for traditional oral material, learner engagement strategies for asynchronous Igbo instruction, and accessibility requirements for diverse learner populations. The validated guide is piloted with twenty educators who subsequently develop and evaluate sample Igbo e-learning modules. Pilot feedback confirms significant improvement in content quality relative to self-directed development attempts.
