📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study examines the challenges of implementing the business education curriculum in technical colleges in Akwa Ibom State, South South Nigeria. Business education is an integral component of the vocational and technical education framework, preparing students for clerical, commercial, and entrepreneurial roles. However, effective curriculum implementation is hampered by a range of institutional, human, and material resource constraints. A descriptive survey design is adopted, targeting 180 business education teachers and 300 students across six technical colleges in Uyo, Eket, and Oron local government areas. A structured questionnaire measures perceived implementation challenges across dimensions including teacher competence, instructional materials, assessment quality, and administrative support. Frequency distributions, means, and standard deviations are computed. Findings are expected to identify insufficient computer laboratory access, outdated accounting and office management textbooks, and inadequate teacher professional development as key barriers. The study also explores whether urban-rural differences in college location correlate with implementation quality. Recommendations include curriculum resource kits for all business education classrooms, regular teacher workshops on emerging commercial practices, and the integration of digital business tools such as spreadsheet applications and online accounting software into the curriculum. This study contributes to business education implementation research in South South Nigeria and informs policy actions for the National Board for Technical Education. Keywords: business education, curriculum implementation, Akwa Ibom State, technical colleges, challenges
