Assessment of Earned Value Management Application in Federal Road Projects in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria

Earned Value Management (EVM) is a globally recognized project performance measurement methodology, yet its adoption among project management practitioners in Nigerian federal road projects remains limited. This study assesses the application of EVM in federal road projects in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria. A descriptive survey will recruit 150 project engineers, quantity surveyors, and Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) field officers from five active federal road projects. A structured questionnaire will assess EVM awareness, application frequency, data collection rigor, and management use of EVM metrics for decision-making. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests will examine current EVM adoption rates and barriers. Recent literature from Nigerian road project management highlights over-reliance on simple milestone tracking and budgetary comparison methods, without integrated cost-schedule performance analysis. This study will provide evidence to support FERMA training programs and promote EVM adoption in Nigerian federal road project management.
