Role of Educational Technology in Staff Capacity Building in Non-Governmental Organisations in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria

This study investigates the role of educational technology in staff capacity building programmes of non-governmental organisations operating in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria. NGOs are significant providers of community education and social services in the North Central zone, and their staff development effectiveness has direct implications for programme quality. A descriptive survey design was employed, sampling 85 staff and programme managers from fifteen registered NGOs in Jos, Pankshin, and Shendam. A validated questionnaire assessed use of digital training tools, online learning platforms, and multimedia content in NGO staff development programmes. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests. Findings reveal mixed adoption: NGOs with international donor support demonstrate higher use of digital training platforms, while locally funded organisations rely primarily on face-to-face workshops. Video-based training and WhatsApp learning groups are the most accessible and frequently used digital modalities. Limited technological infrastructure, staff digital literacy gaps, and donor-driven technology preferences constrain consistent adoption. The study recommends that NGO management invest in staff digital literacy foundations, explore low-bandwidth training solutions, and document technology-assisted capacity building outcomes for reporting to donors.
