📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
This study examines patterns of professional development and career progression among insurance practitioners in Nigeria, focusing on the role of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) qualification system in shaping career trajectories. The insurance industry globally requires practitioners with specialized technical knowledge, and the availability of structured professional development pathways is critical for attracting and retaining talent. In Nigeria, anecdotal evidence suggests that career progression in insurance is often hindered by limited training investment, qualification cost barriers, and industry perception challenges. This research employs a professional survey design with data collected from 200 insurance practitioners across career stages in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano. Structured questionnaires assess qualification attainment, employer-sponsored training frequency, perceived career advancement equity, salary progression, and job satisfaction. Interviews with HR directors at ten insurance companies supplement practitioner surveys. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis identify predictors of career progression velocity. Preliminary findings are expected to reveal that CIIN qualification significantly mediates career progression speed but that employer investment in exam support varies widely. The study recommends standardized employer training obligations and expanded CIIN scholarship programs targeting mid-career practitioners in underserved markets.
