Inter-Organisational Collaboration and Supply Chain Performance in the Construction Industry in Abuja, FCT

This study investigates the relationship between inter-organisational collaboration and supply chain performance among construction firms in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, North Central Nigeria. Construction supply chains are inherently complex, involving multiple tiers of contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, and equipment providers whose coordination directly affects project delivery timelines and material cost management. Weak collaboration between these actors, characterised by information silos, adversarial contracting relationships, and poor procurement alignment, has been identified as a significant driver of project cost overruns and delays in Nigerian construction. Using a descriptive survey design, structured questionnaires were administered to 95 project managers, supply chain coordinators, and procurement officers in 20 registered construction firms operating in Abuja. Inter-organisational collaboration is assessed through information sharing frequency, joint planning practices, long-term contractual relationships, and dispute resolution effectiveness. Supply chain performance is measured by material delivery timeliness, procurement cost variance, and project schedule adherence. Pearson correlation and regression analysis are employed. The study draws on construction supply chain and collaboration literature from sub-Saharan Africa. Findings are expected to demonstrate strong positive relationships between collaboration quality and supply chain performance outcomes, informing recommendations for construction industry associations, procurement regulators, and project management practitioners in the Federal Capital Territory.
