📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
Nigerian church denominations are increasingly engaging with social media as communication platforms, yet most lack deliberate digital communication strategies that align with their theological identity and pastoral objectives. This study develops a practical social media communication strategy guide for Nigerian church denominations, grounded in Christian communication ethics and professional digital media practice. A professional guide development design was adopted, beginning with a digital audit of the social media presence of fifteen Nigerian denominations across Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, supplemented by interviews with twelve church communication officers, eight digital marketing professionals who are committed Christians, and ten pastors actively using social media for ministry. Review of theological frameworks for Christian communication, including media theology and the ethics of truthful communication, grounded the guide's normative framework. The guide addresses six strategic areas: platform selection aligned with denominational audience, content planning and theological coherence, community engagement and pastoral care online, crisis communication and reputation management, data privacy and ethical responsibility, and metrics and programme evaluation. Each area includes practical tools, templates, and a contextualised Nigerian church example. Expert review confirmed the guide's professional quality and denominational applicability. Recommendations include adoption by the Nigeria Christian Pentecostal Ministers Association communication committee and integration into church communication officer training programmes.
