Awareness and Use of E-Government Services Among Students of Akwa Ibom State University

This study examined awareness and use of e-government services among undergraduate students at Akwa Ibom State University in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, South South Nigeria. E-government services represent a significant interface between citizens and government, enabling online access to public administration services including tax filing, certificate applications, and public procurement information. A descriptive survey design was employed, and data were gathered from 300 students using a structured questionnaire. Findings showed that awareness of specific e-government portals was moderate, with the National Identity Management Commission portal and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board platform being the most widely known. However, actual transactional use of government portals for administrative purposes beyond admissions was low. Barriers included slow website performance, cumbersome registration processes, distrust of online transactions, and infrequent internet access. The study recommended that libraries develop user guides for navigating key e-government portals and offer assisted access sessions for students with limited digital experience.
