📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
High-pressure high-temperature gas well completions require engineering solutions that reliably maintain zonal isolation and production performance over multi-decade well lives under conditions that challenge standard completion materials and designs. This study professionally evaluates well completion technology selection criteria for the HPHT gas play targets in the Ekeremor Deep area, Bayelsa State, South South Nigeria. Reservoir conditions for the target formations are characterised from exploration well data as pressures between 11,500 and 14,000 psia and temperatures reaching 230 degrees Celsius, classifying these wells within the ultra-HTHP category. A structured technology selection process is applied, evaluating completion tubulars, packer systems, wellhead equipment, and downhole gauging options against the specific HTHP condition envelope. Corrosion resistant alloy tubing grades (Super 13Cr, 28Cr duplex, and 25Cr super duplex) are evaluated using the NACE MR0175 sour service standard in combination with predicted CO2 and trace H2S partial pressures. Elastomer and metal-to-metal seal packer technologies are assessed using third-party qualification test data at simulated HTHP conditions. The study determines that 25Cr super duplex tubing with metal-to-metal seal packers provides the optimal combination of corrosion resistance, strength, and seal reliability for the Ekeremor Deep environment. A wellhead specification aligned with API 6A and API 17D pressure and temperature ratings is presented.
