Professional Appraisal of Continuing Professional Development Participation Among Registered Radiographers in Kano State

Continuing professional development is a regulatory requirement and ethical obligation for registered Nigerian radiographers, and its systematic participation ensures maintenance of competency and adoption of evolving imaging technologies and patient safety standards. In Kano State, North West Nigeria, where a substantial radiographer workforce is employed across public and private facilities, the extent and quality of CPD participation warrants professional appraisal. This study professionally appraises CPD participation patterns, barriers, and professional development needs among registered radiographers in Kano State. A cross-sectional professional survey is administered to 140 registered radiographers across 22 hospitals and diagnostic imaging centres in Kano metropolis. The survey documents CPD activity types engaged in over the preceding two years, credit hours accumulated, self-assessed competency gaps, barriers to CPD participation, and awareness of NRBN CPD requirements. Descriptive statistics and chi-square analysis are computed in SPSS. Available radiography CPD literature from North West Nigeria identifies financial cost of professional development events, limited local CPD provision, and heavy clinical workload as the three most cited participation barriers. The NRBN Continuing Professional Development Framework and the EFRS standards for radiography professional development provide the normative reference. Findings are expected to reveal CPD credit hour accumulation below NRBN requirements in more than half of respondents. Recommendations address employer-funded CPD allowances, locally accessible radiography professional development events, and online CPD platform adoption to address geographic access barriers in Kano State.
