Appraisal of Construction Financial Management Software Adoption Among Nigerian Quantity Surveying Firms

The adoption of financial management software offers significant potential for improving the accuracy, efficiency, and professional quality of quantity surveying services. This study appraises the extent and drivers of construction financial management software adoption among quantity surveying firms in Nigeria. A national survey design was adopted, with 120 registered quantity surveying firms sampled from NIQS practice registers across Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Enugu. Structured questionnaires were administered to senior partners and practice managers. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression. Findings show that 47% of Nigerian firms use some form of dedicated construction financial management software, with the highest adoption rates in Lagos and Abuja. Cost of licensing, inadequate IT infrastructure, staff training requirements, and poor local technical support are the most significant barriers to adoption. Larger firms demonstrate significantly higher adoption rates, while sole practitioners and small firms remain predominantly reliant on general spreadsheet applications. The study finds that firms using dedicated software report higher client satisfaction scores and faster billing cycles. Recommendations include the development of a NIQS-endorsed affordable software programme, subsidised training partnerships with software vendors, and integration of software proficiency standards into NIQS practice accreditation criteria. This research provides a national baseline on technology adoption in Nigerian quantity surveying practice.
