Assessment of Stakeholder Communication Practices in Road Construction Projects in Ogun State, South West Nigeria

Effective stakeholder communication is a foundational project management competency that directly influences project outcomes, yet its systematic application in Nigerian road construction remains inconsistent. This study assesses stakeholder communication practices in road construction projects executed by the Ogun State government and private contractors. A descriptive survey will recruit 180 respondents including project managers, community liaison officers, government representatives, and community members from five ongoing and recently completed road projects. The Project Communication Assessment Tool (PCAT) will evaluate communication frequency, channel effectiveness, feedback mechanisms, and stakeholder satisfaction. Sociodemographic variables including professional experience, organizational type, and project scale will be documented. Descriptive and inferential statistics including chi-square tests and regression analysis will identify predictors of communication effectiveness. Recent studies from South West Nigeria highlight miscommunication between contractors and host communities as a significant source of project conflict and abandonment. This study will generate site-level evidence for developing a standardized communication protocol for state-funded road projects in Ogun State. Recommendations will be directed at the Ogun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the Federation of Construction Industry, and project management training institutions.
