Airport Wi-Fi infrastructure management is a complex operational challenge in high-traffic environments, demanding concurrent attention to network performance, security, user authentication, and regulatory compliance. This study examines the deployment and management of Wi-Fi infrastructure at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, South West Nigeria, one of Africa's busiest aviation gateways. A technical assessment approach was adopted, combining Wi-Fi signal strength mapping surveys across all terminals with structured interviews involving 15 IT infrastructure managers and airport operations staff. The study evaluates access point placement, load balancing configurations, authentication mechanisms, security protocols, and user satisfaction metrics. Findings reveal significant signal coverage gaps in two domestic terminal areas and the international departure lounge, with average download speeds of 1.8 Mbps recorded during peak hours against an international benchmark of 10 Mbps. Security audit results indicate that several legacy access points operate on WEP encryption, presenting unacceptable vulnerability profiles. Passenger satisfaction surveys among 200 travellers rated airport Wi-Fi quality at 2.6 out of 5. The study proposes a Wi-Fi Infrastructure Modernisation Framework and recommends a phased replacement of legacy hardware, adoption of WPA3 encryption across all access points, and implementation of a centralised network management system.
