📖 ABSTRACT/OVERVIEW
Background: Patient satisfaction is an internationally recognised indicator of care quality that shapes health outcomes and institutional reputation. Understanding satisfaction determinants in Nigerian general hospitals remains critical for service improvement. Aim: This study identified factors influencing patients' satisfaction with nursing care at General Hospital, Port Harcourt, South South Nigeria. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was adopted. One hundred and ten adult patients admitted to medical, surgical, and gynaecological wards were selected through convenience sampling. A modified SERVQUAL instrument adapted for hospital settings served as the data collection tool. Data were analysed using SPSS version 26. Results: Overall, 62% of respondents rated nursing care as satisfactory. Key positive predictors included nurse responsiveness, clear communication, and attentiveness to pain and discomfort. Dissatisfaction was linked to prolonged waiting times, perceived rudeness, and inconsistent medication rounds. Conclusion: Nurse communication skills and responsiveness are the most influential determinants of patient satisfaction. The study recommends targeted communication training, care standard enforcement, and structured patient feedback mechanisms in Nigerian public hospitals. Keywords: patient satisfaction, nursing care, Port Harcourt, SERVQUAL, hospital quality.
